We have long dreamed of getting to Akkerman. And then the day came when our foot stepped into the territory of this fortification. The heat was just wild ...
Akkerman Gate
There is an excavation area under the walls of the fortress. This is the ancient, pre-Christian city Thira. He is 2500 years old.

The main gate of the fortress. Authentic stones, high walls and only a modern entrance turnstile bring thoughts back to modernity.

The ditch under the walls was impressive - deep, wide and terrible even without water. Stuck cores can be seen in the walls.

The exhibition of weapons on the territory of the fortress is attractive. There are old machine guns here,

And the progenitors of rocket launchers are ballistas.

The tower in the next photo has two names: 1. Maiden - where the girls were locked up in the dungeon. 2. Tower of Ovid - where they kept the ancient Roman poet Ovid, who was here in exile. Those. for the Romans, this land was something like Siberia.

On the other side of the fortress there is an endless estuary, which was the main trade route in the ancient life of the fortress.

The battlements with their signs indicate that climbing on them is prohibited, but these instructions are not absolutely fulfilled, and there are high and rather dangerous places there.
We walk in the courtyard of the fortress
The bastion is the heart of the Akkerman fortress. There was a treasury, a garrison lived, and prisoners were kept.

Apparently, the life of the inhabitants of the bastion was very simple, and the inhabitants themselves were unpretentious.

After visiting the fortress, we thought to plunge into the estuary, but a brazen snake head looked out of the water right at us. And somehow it didn't get hot, and somehow I didn't want to swim at all ... ;-)
The trimaran floats past the fortress
But they simply did not have time to ride the trimaran. The owner met us when we were already waiting for a called taxi to go to the station. I asked for 250 hryvnia per hour. While waiting for a taxi, we bought the cheapest watermelon from a boy under the fortress this year.
We would be glad to receive your comments on this article. If you have been to Akkerman or are going to visit this fortress - share your impressions in the comments. Reposts and likes will be greatly appreciated.
