It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)
One of the most memorable adventures that happened to us in Sri Lanka was the exploration of the Tangalle lagoon. This is the place on earth where you can feel like the hero of a documentary from the National Geographic channel. The magical landscapes of mangroves hanging over the canals of the lagoon captivate every traveler who swims here.
From our hotel Ceylon Sea Hotel , to the lagoon there were 10-15 minutes of a leisurely walk along Madilla road. We walked with pleasure, photographing the surroundings. The landmark was the Buddha sitting on a truck wheel. And after all, what a significant crosshairs of times: Buddha, who is 2640 years old, settled himself on a wheel, who is 20 years old at most ...
To the left of the statue is a path to the water where several kayaks are parked. A single room costs 1,000 rupees per hour (just under $ 7) and a double room costs 1,500 rupees ($ 10). There is a veranda near the shore where those who do not want to swim in the lagoon are waiting for those who want to swim there. The veranda itself is nothing interesting, but its inhabitants are magnificent! Just look what chipmunks met us there. Was it a Chip or Dale - decide for yourself ;-)

We rented a two-seater boat and went to conquer the waters of the lagoon.

If you have never swum in mangroves, now you will see how they look from the inside.

Here and there, frightening wooden ghosts jumped out to meet us, and we sailed on.

Cutting through the canals of the lagoon, we were surrounded by real, almost untouched nature ...

The birds living in the lagoon were surprised by the appearance of our kayak and shouted to each other, warning of unexpected guests. We tried to row very quietly, not flopping the oars.

Since the kayak is two-seater, the first had to row, and the second took photos.
You can see how the facial expressions of the rower and the photographer differ ;-)

Unlike the birds, our ship did not surprise the locals, who continued to fish.

And we remembered the moments of unity with nature. A duck flew by, and a bright flower bloomed.

Traveling around the lagoon, our team changed places in kayaks, rolled our fearful young ladies until they appeared - giant monitor lizards. Seeing a two-meter monster, for some reason I wanted to go to the shore.

In the next photo, the kayak of our friends is briskly floating in the other direction from the two-meter monster.

After this giant monitor lizard disappeared into the mangrove thickets, we tried for a long time to see some big animal on the canals of the lagoon, but we met only a baby monitor lizard.

If you come to Tangalle, be sure to visit the lagoon and rent a kayak. The experience of exploring the canals surrounded by mangrove trees will stay with you for a lifetime. The lagoon will give you an incredible experience, but be careful with monitor lizards ;-)
