It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)

We love to write reports about places where an ordinary tourist does not get, because a traveler differs from a tourist in that he always tries to look a little further than the guide advised him.

Today we are walking around the town of Palmeira, which is located in the northwest of the island of Sal, in Cape Verde. The "post-Soviet" blog reader remembers the country of Cape Verde under the name of Cape Verde Island.

There is little information about Palmeira on the Internet. Even the English-language Wikipedia very briefly describes this settlement:

1. Population 1420 people (in 2010)

2. The main port of the island of Sal and the third largest port in Cape Verde.

3. First mentioned in 1720, by some English captain.

4. The name "Palmeira" was mapped in 1747 by the chief military cartographer of France, Jacques-Nicolas Bellin.

And this is all the information - use it! 😁

But we are not here to collect historical materials, but to get impressions.

See what one of the central streets of Palmeira looks like.

The streets that adjoin the port are not so fashionable а, and frankly speaking, they are more like the outskirts of the ghetto. One can sympathize with the locals that the flora and fauna of their island is so poor, but even in such a situation, why behave like a pig.

The number of containers served by the port can tell a lot about the economy of the country and the island. We, at one time, were shocked by the container "cities" of Thailand , where in the places of accumulation or distribution, there were thousands of containers. In Palmeira, you can count the containers on your fingers. Look at the next photo. (from the misunderstood: really, in the thirty-degree heat, someone is sitting in a green wooden booth with a window? !!!)

After talking with the locals, we learned that the main commodity that the port of Palmeira receives is oil products. Gasoline is needed even on distant islands in the ocean. We also photographed the "banks" of oil storage facilities.

Just want to dot the "ї". The world-famous case, where a Russian ship transported almost ten tons of cocaine , as a result of which the Cape Verdean court gave the captain 12 years, and the sailors 10 years in prison, took place not in Palmeira, but in the capital port of the Cape Verde Islands - the city of Praia.

We did not find cocaine in the port of Palmeira 😂😂😂, but we found a large number of fishing accessories here.

What was particularly memorable on the pier in Palmeira was the locals who butchered the freshly caught fish. When we came here, it turned out that moray eels were being "refreshed" here (!!!) We were very surprised - many people in their entire lives do not manage to see moray eels, but to cut it up right on the pier in such an ordinary way, it was impressive for us event.

Don't be too harsh on our photograph at the Palmeira pier. If you don't know, Sal Island is one of the windiest places on earth. When I was writing the report, for the sake of interest I looked at the weather in Palmeira right at that moment: the temperature is 29 degrees and the wind is 29 meters per second! And realizing that this exhausting wind constantly carries a huge amount of sand, you must forgive us for our hairstyles and closed eyes 😊😊😊

We also met a church near the pier, but during the day it was closed and we could not look inside.

Suddenly, a cheerful and perky "dollar shop" appeared on the pier, where we were offered to purchase several unnecessary trinkets. We are always prepared for such surprises, so our budget did not suffer that time 😉

Before leaving, I took a farewell selfie at the pier of the Palmeira port, because everything that we wanted to see, we saw, and whether we will ever be here again is a big question. 😉
