Very few tourists visiting Vilnius know about the beautiful ritual of changing the national flag of Lithuania. And it is held every Sunday. Come to the presidential palace at 12 noon. They say that on the left side of it the President works, and on the right side he lives.
Although, whether this is true or not, we do not know for certain. And here we are near the palace at 11-45. The square is empty and we begin to doubt that we will be able to see anyone ...
Gradually some noise builds up in the square. We and a few onlookers see the knights on full alert. They march towards the presidential palace.
At 1155, the knights block the entrance to the palace and wait for something. And we manage to come up and photograph them up close.
Then two detachments of soldiers appear from around the corner, walking with a clear step along the palace to the center of the square.
They brought with them two flags, a Lithuanian and a European one, which they will hang instead of the ones that have been hanging on flagpoles since last Sunday.
After replacing the flags with new ones, the soldiers rebuild and clearly march away.
We were able to record a fragment of this ritual on video, it looks unusual and impressive:
