It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)
Those who want to see the oldest functioning church in Ukraine should come to Uzhgorod. We were there at the very peak of nature's bloom. The Goryanska rotunda for tourists is located inconveniently and is an attraction that very few travelers have seen. It's hard to imagine, but even many Uzhgorod residents do not know where it is. To see her you need to get to the Goryany area.
After asking the locals in the area where the rotunda is located, we were able to find it.

We were disappointed, the Goryanska rotunda was closed to visitors. We were upset, but we photographed her anyway.

This round part is the oldest. The rest of the church was added a little later. The oldest of the churches in Ukraine is only St. Sophia of Kiev, but it is already a museum, and the rotunda is a functioning church. To stand next to her is to feel the centuries ...

And then, it's worth going to see Uzhgorod. The view of the city from the hill where the church stands is not inferior to the views from most European and Ukrainian churches. Well, except that Montserrat Monastery boasts more memorable landscapes around

It began to rain on the street and our team, a little sad, was going to go back, but something incredible happened. It is not clear where the young man came from and began to open the gates of the temple. We rushed to him. This person turned out to be the abbot, Father Yuri.

He not only launched us inside, but also gave us a mini-tour. If we arrive 10 minutes earlier, we will not see the frescoes of Giotto's school of 1360-1370. Apparently we really wanted to see them and our wish came true.

We have recorded a small part of Father Yuri's excursion on video and offer it to you for review.
After the tour, we talked with the rector, asked questions of interest to us.

But the communication did not last long, as the parishioners of this temple began to gather for the mass.

Those who love history and appreciate the memorable places of Ukraine - be sure to visit the Goryanska Rotunda. She is worthy of attention.
