One of the main attractions of Kiev and all of Ukraine is the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Lavra in translation from Greek means "populous monastery". Founded in 1051 by the monk Anthony, it still receives pilgrims.

The Lavra has witnessed many ups and downs of historical figures. Nowadays, it is a place of prayer for millions of people and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine.
The acquaintance with the Lavra begins with the gate and the Gate Church - this is the oldest surviving structure of the Lavra. Having looked at the walls carefully, you can see the unplastered fragments of the walls. They show millennial stones that can be touched. The tourist has something to see here. There are many churches, bell towers, museums. There is even a museum of microminiatures, where you can see a shod flea and a rose inserted into a hair cut through a microscope.
But the most important holy places are the near and far caves. These caves were dug by monks who prayed there for centuries. Now in the caves there are sarcophagi with their relics, to which people come to pray and ask for help and protection. From what surprises many visitors to the caves of the relics of Ilya Muromets, who is considered a fictional character, but the Lavra caves say that he was a living person who ended his life as a monk in caves. The entrance to the Lavra this year costs 50 hryvnia, which is ~ $ 2.2. The price includes a group tour that starts near the entrance every 15-20 minutes. Near the distant caves there is a monument to Cyril and Methodius - the creators of the Cyrillic alphabet, which is now used in many countries of the world.
Not far from the monument, you can have a bite to eat at the refectory, which will delight you with delicious food and inexpensive prices. A plate of borscht costs 9 hryvnia ($ 0.4), a glass of compote costs 4 hryvnia ($ 0.18).
When you are in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, be sure to buy Agapit oil. This oil, they say, helps with exacerbations of any disease.
And save the candle with which you will go through the caves and take it home. When you feel lonely or sad in your soul, light it up and sadness will leave you, bringing harmony to your soul.
