Choosing Aegina for our trip, we turned our attention to several factors. The first is the proximity to the port of Piraeus, in order to get there quickly, since we had only 4 days to travel. The second is the purity of nature, it was confirmed by pistachios, which grow in large quantities on the island, but they cannot grow where the ecology is disturbed. The third is history, in the 19th century Aegina was even the capital of Greece - for some time it took the primacy from Athens. An important factor was the fact that it was this island that Zeus chose to seduce the nymph Aegina, after whom the island was named ;-) And to close the topic of pistachios - local ones are considered the best in the world. The image of the island on the pack can be considered the highest quality standard.

For those who want to see Aegina - our itinerary: Flights Kiev-Athens-Kiev (90-100 euros, if you catch a promotion). Athens airport has 5 exits. Between the fourth and fifth - the bus stop of the X96 bus (Airport - Piraeus port). Buy tickets at the box office next to the stop (6 euros). Then the transfer takes about 1.5 hours and the final stop is at the 8th berth of the port. To the left is berth 7, from where ships sail to Aegina. Since the best beaches on the island are in the town of Agia Marina, it is better to sail there directly (10 euros). You can also get to the capital of the same name of the island of Aegina (9 euros), but then you have to pay 18 euros for a taxi to Agia Marina. This is how Piraeus disappears in the distance when you sail to Aegina.

Sailing past the container ships standing in the roadstead, you understand how important the Athens port of Piraeus is in the modern economy, and which cruise liners visit this port can be seen in our INSTAGRAM

Typical streets of Agia Marina look like this - low-rise buildings and many beautiful rose bushes in each courtyard.

Near the restaurants you can find octopuses hanging on a rope, and in many places tourists are offered some kind of KOTOPOYLO. We didn’t dare to try ;-)

The most vivid memory on the island was acquaintance with the temple of Aphaia. It was built in the 5th century BC and is very well preserved. The road to the temple was not easy, but the signs were clear ;-)

The Temple of Afaya is located high on the mountain and when we climbed an interesting story happened to us. Almost at the very top we met a runner, he asked where we were going from, we said from Agii Marina, then said that he was from Germany and asked where we were from. I pointed to my Ukraine cap, he was delighted and said the following: "Do you know that Washington recently discussed the allocation of $ 1 billion to support your country?" - "Yes" - we answered uncertainly. "So I took part in those negotiations!" - said the German, winked, turned around and ran in the opposite direction. But I managed to take a picture of him ;-)

Of the unusual experiences I would like to name bathing in natural baths. Near Agia Marina, nature has created an unusual rock in which several small pools have formed. Water gets into them during storms, and in calm times, carefully making your way over the rock, you can swim in them, which we did. The most surprising thing was that there even live fish, abandoned by the waves.

Concluding my travel note about Aegina, I would like to say that perhaps nowhere else have I inhaled such an air saturated with coniferous aromas. Aegina - a spa resort with a capital letter! And "for a snack", a few photos of Aegina. The photos below are clickable.
