It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)

By the will of fate, we ended up in Kozin. And, as they usually asked the "old Google", what sights can be seen nearby?

In the search, the Grunewald Oak fell out - the oldest oak in the Kiev region, which is more than 900 years old. Previously, we saw only one tree of an older age - the 1100-year-old olive in Turkey (you can see it on our Instagram ).

We thought and decided that the famous oak is worth seeing and hit the road.

 Location of the Grunewald Oak

The navigator directed us from the Stolichnoye Highway to Starokievskaya Street, after which he led us along the narrow streets of the dacha village, where two cars cannot separate and have to wait for one or the other at small intersections. As a result, we got to the "brick" sign, left the car under someone's fence and went to look for the "Zhovten" boarding house, on the territory of which the famous oak tree is located. But first we went to one of the Dnieper canals, the beach of which surprised us with its low population, and in fact such heat, the banks of the Dnieper and numerous lakes near the capital, as a rule, are "to capacity" filled with vacationers.

The peculiarity of this beach was that it was a large sand dune. We saw a similar dune in the city of Santa Maria , Cape Verde . Climbing this sandy hill, we took a photo of the view of the Dnieper.

After that we went deeper into the forest, where we found a path leading to the boarding house. There, on the way, we met an unusual plant in black and crimson flowers and climbed the stairs to the territory of "Zhovtnya", where many centuries-old oaks grow.

Some of these old oak trees look very picturesque, like the one in the next photo. The tree loomed over the slope and scattered its branches for tens of meters around.

And here we are near a natural celebrity, which is marked with a plate with the name and certificate of the victory of this oak in the competition "Aesthetically valuable trees of Ukraine".

You can evaluate the level of aesthetics yourself. Only the trunk coverage of this handsome man is 7 meters. A few years ago, bad people burned fires inside an oak tree, which severely crippled the tree. For today, the hollow was blocked with wire and two fragments of a metal corner, so that no one could get inside.

On the right, one of the trunk fragments was fixed on a support, which someone had completed with the help of pectoral crosses and a crucifix.

The religious theme is also present on the left side of the oak. On one of the branches, high above, an icon is installed, covered with a towel. Why the Grunewald oak is so important for believing visitors, we could not find out.

The first thought, when you hear the name of this oak, suggests associations with the Battle of Grunwald in 1410. But neither the date of the battle, nor the place - could explain why this oak is so named. I had to turn to "Wiki", which says that the tree is named after the last great painter of Northern Gothic - German, Matthias Grunewald . Why this particular German artist? Why was the oak in the Kiev region named after him? Questions remain unanswered even after flipping through the pages of Wikipedia. In reality, this painter is relatively little known, his legacy is only ten works, most of which are multi-winged altars in the temples of Germany ...

Despite many questions, nobody canceled the photo near the natural landmark 😊😊😊

What souvenirs did we bring from there?

Grunewald's oak, despite its age and "scars" of past years, actively blooms, beautifying the area, and delighting the eyes of visitors. We took a couple of acorns from such a genetically powerful tree as a keepsake to plant them somewhere, not far from our house.

Ukraine is beautiful! Be sure to travel!
