It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)

One sunny weekend, we decided to go on another fishing trip in Canada. We already had one trophy in the form of Prussian carp, which we caught in a pond in the town of Innisfail. And to be frank, the fish that is called Prussian Carp here, we always knew as a regular lake carp that we had caught at home before. The same funny difference in names by Canadians, we have already met with Bulgarian peppers, here in Canada, it is called Hungarian for some reason. The main part of preparing to fish in Alberta is buying a license, which costs $28 Canadian dollars a year and another $4 for a plastic card if you don't have enough electronic permit.

We arrived in Lacombe with our licenses because a couple of months ago we read that there was a cool attraction here: “The Biggest Lure in the World.” Due to its size, this sign is visible from afar from the road. And of course, we took a photo next to this huge spoon.

We were lucky and met a Ukrainian girl from the neighboring city of Red Deer, who revealed the secret of her trout fishing. She dragged small but beautiful fish onto pieces of marshmallows she bought at the supermarket. Coincidentally, by the time we arrived, she was already getting ready to go home and therefore gave us all her remaining sweet bait, which we were very happy about.

Pelicans circled over trout lake in Lacombe, adding a little romance to our fishing trip. There were only three pelicans on the lake, and soon we witnessed the dramatic outcome of this love triangle.

We thought that the wooden bridges on the side of the giant lure were very crowded and leisurely went to the opposite shore of the lake, where the density of fishermen was much less.

We dismantled our gear, set up our fishing rods, and after a while the trout began to show interest in our hooks. But an annoying problem was the large amount of algae near this shore. And after several attempts to pull out the biting fish, which got caught in the grass, we finally decided to join the fishermen on the wooden platforms.

Meanwhile, among the two courageous pelicans, there was a showdown in the struggle for the beautiful lady, who in the end preferred one of them and swam with him on the lake. The losing pelican did not stop and constantly tried to interfere in their relationship, but in the end the young couple got tired of it and flew away.

The unsuccessful groom decided to stay on the lake and did not fly after them, reveling in his grief and eating his sadness with fresh trout.

For some time nothing was biting for us. We watched enviously as two boys of about twelve carried one trout after another. How they did this was unclear to us. As a result, one of them revealed a secret to us. They caught their trout with their secret bait, which they shared with us. After some time, luck smiled on me, the bite was strong and I began to pull my fish. But there were high railings on the wooden bridges along the entire perimeter, so the fish had to not only be caught, but also raised to a great height above the water so that it would fly over the railing. My first trout was quite large and, under its own weight, broke off a split second before I could grab it with my hand. But we don’t give up, and literally with the next bite I landed my first trout in Canada. It was a rainbow trout that shimmered in different colors in the sun.

After such luck, only the pelican, which was not chosen, remained sad on the lake in Lacombe.

We really wanted Natasha to catch her trout too. But the fish pecked often, but it was impossible to pull it out. It was already beginning to get dark, and we persistently cast fishing rods with bait attached to hooks. And her hopes were destined to come true: after a strong bite, Natasha pulled out her first trout in Canada. This was a tiger trout with a brown tint.

The boys told us that you can take up to five trout caught on the lake, so our catch was ceremoniously loaded into the bucket with which we usually go fishing.
