It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)
Cozumel is the largest and most popular island in Mexico.
After a few days in Playa del Carmen, we went to the island of Cozumel. Large yellow-blue ferries leave from the port of Playa every half an hour. Tickets are sold at yellow and blue kiosks throughout the city. The issue price is 86 pesos one way or 150 pesos there and back. Let's share a secret that we ourselves learned when we met two Polish students in a hostel. In the main square in Playa del Carmen, diagonally from the church, there is a kiosk where you can buy tickets to the island for 100 pesos there and back. Transportation is carried out by ferries with the inscription Mexico, which are in no way inferior to the yellow-blue ones, except that they run less often only once an hour. In the next photo, our ferry is in the background.
For about 40 minutes we crossed the strait between mainland Mexico and the island of Cozumel. The port in Cozumel is small and the ferry and boat traffic is very large, so it is always packed with people. To get out of the port into the city you will have to spend a few minutes walking slowly, shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of tourists from all over the world. And here we are on the main street of the town of San Miguel, the capital of the island of Cozumel.

To get to the hotel, we did not take a taxi or horse carts, we walked. Because we have booked a hotel two kilometers from the port, and walking along the embankment of a Caribbean island is always a pleasure. :-) Especially when there are interesting monuments and cruise ships everywhere.

And here we are at the hotel. Since it was on the days spent in this hotel that the New Year fell, we approached the choice of the hotel carefully. And, we think we have made the right decision. Look what a beauty!

Among the sculptural compositions that adorn the hotel are the Mayan pyramids, as well as several other sculptures that arouse genuine interest ;-)

After settling, we went to the city for a walk and look for a new suitcase, because ours could not stand the two-kilometer ride to the hotel and one of the wheels was treacherously worn out and prevented us from walking :-) Let's reveal another secret of Cozumel, they love dollars here. If you want to exchange money in mainland Mexico, then the maximum dollar exchange rate that we met was 19.55. And if they didn't have time to change, then in stores and cafes the dollar will be accepted at a low rate of 18-18.50 (and especially greedy cafes can count at 17). In Cozumel, do not change anything, as in any store and cafe dollar will be gladly accepted at 20.50 - 21.00 (despite the fact that the exchange rate in exchange offices will be 19.50 - 19.60. The town of San Miguel is small, but cozy.

A young lady named Katrina is everywhere in Mexico. At first it is a little shocking, and then you get used to it ... But we sincerely love street musicians and often shoot them on video, since the music conveys the atmosphere well.

In the evening, after an entertainment program at the hotel, we met a family from the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Luis, Maria and Bania turned out to be so cheerful and friendly that we agreed to take the car the next day and go around the most interesting places in Cozumel together. At the beginning, we did not take this agreement seriously, but leaving at 10 am at the hotel reception, we really met our new friends who were already ready to travel. We managed to go around the island, we visited the ancient Mayan city of San Hervasio, walked in the tropical jungle and saw some of the most beautiful beaches in the world: San Martin and El Mirador. We became close friends with our Mexican comrades, confirmation of which will be the Instagram of Bania, where it is written in Spanish about Ukrainian friends :-) And yet, a little Spanish lesson: no Chihuahua exist. There is only Chihuahua, this is what the name of this state sounds like. The photos below are clickable.

We are very interested in the Mayan cities, so we did not limit ourselves to photos, but also shot small video clips. Here is the altar of the goddess Ix-Chel in the ancient Mayan city of San Gervasio.
And then there was a meeting of the new year at the hotel. Everyone was given funny hats, they showed live dance numbers from musicals and the holiday was already very close. For us, accustomed to counting to twelve, it was surprising that here the countdown began three minutes before the new year, everyone stood up and began to shout, whistle and hoot. The closer the new year was, the louder the hum was. And with the onset of 2017, everyone rushed to hug, even the waiters postponed their dressing and hugged everyone. We presented our Mexican friends with a small souvenir from Ukraine and they were very happy with it. :-)

At the end of our report, let's add some atmospheric photos from Cozumel.

And, yes - we did buy a new suitcase (between us, it turned out to be two times cheaper than at home).
