It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)
Milan (Bergamo) airport is located very close to Bergamo, so arriving there late at night we did not wait for the morning bus, but called Uber, who took us to the hotel for little money. But we didn’t manage to save much, because the hostess announced to us that after 20:00 she usually does not receive guests and her arrival here costs 10 additional euros. The room was spacious, but cold, because the hostess turned on the heating only at the time of our settlement, and events took place in early spring, when the mountains surrounding Bergamo were covered with white "caps" of snow , and the wind brings very noticeable cold to the city from there.
We woke up early to have time to see Bergamo before our train to Varenna .
The dawn in this city of the world looks like this.
The owner of the hotel (despite yesterday's extra 10 euros 😉) turned out to be a nice woman. When she was preparing breakfast for us, and knowing that we were from Ukraine, she turned on an Italian-Ukrainian voice translator on her phone, and spoke Italian phrases there, and he loudly translated into Ukrainian. The first time we heard an unfamiliar voice cheerfully said: "Good morning, dear friends!" , we were even startled by surprise, but when we figured out what was the matter, we were very touched by such customer focus.
Since our main goal was Lake Como , where we planned to get by train, we settled next to the station. The classic sleeping area of Bergamo, which is located right next to the train station, can be seen in the next photo.
We knew that Bergamo consists of two parts : the lower city and the upper one. The lower one is modern and businesslike, and the upper one is old (the one where Truffaldino was naughty). The most convenient way to get to the upper city is the funicular, where we went along Viale Roma - in other words, along the Roman Avenue.
We passed a huge number of banks, past the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (its dome on the right in the photo), and the Upper Town appeared in front of us.
The foot of the mountain looks not at all businesslike. Here are collected villas and hotels with the most expensive view in Bergamo - a view of the upper city. Unlike the business area, there are many palms and other evergreen trees.
In this part of the city, we came across unusual daisies that have already blossomed despite the cold weather. Their peculiarity is that some of the petals have a pink border.
Or maybe they aren't daisies at all 😊😊😊
The road turns to the right, which means that soon there will be the lower station of the Bergama funicular.
We love to ride funiculars in different cities around the world. Of those that I remember: funiculars in Porto , Prague , Budapest and of course in Kiev . Bergamo is called Chitta Alta (high city). Tickets are bought from the machine before boarding, instructions are available in Italian and English. You can even figure it out intuitively.
The Bergamo funicular is equipped with red trailers and it takes a long time to climb up: plus or minus two and a half minutes.
It takes quite a long time to get up: plus or minus two and a half minutes. When we were returning from the upper city, I managed to take a seat next to the driver and film the entire journey.
And here we are in old Bergamo, with narrow and cobbled streets.
The main square of the upper city is Piazza Vechia (old square). This is the most visited place in Bergamo. It is here that tourists from all countries flock.
The number one attraction in Bergamo is the Contarini fountain . The octagonal bowl flanked by the Sphinx, lions and snakes is probably the most photographed work in the city.
We were lucky to be in Piazza Vechia at noon, when the clock chimed 12 times. We managed to shoot a video clip so that readers, at least for a short time, could immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Old Square, the Upper Town in Bergamo, Italy
The most memorable things in the Upper Town are medieval architecture and the modern food industry . And here and there, the craftsmen from the city of Bergamo, put all their skill and imagination.
On the other side of the Upper Town we were unexpectedly met by a dinosaur . Why he ended up here, standing in full growth, we do not know, but this was not the last dinosaur we saw in Bergamo.
"Park of the Bergama Period" accompanied us both in the Lower Town and near the station. The invasion of animals extinct millions of years ago on Bergamo, for some reason, did not surprise local residents at all.
But let's go back to the Upper City. We walked right through it and found ourselves on the observation deck, which opened a panorama of the Bergamo Botanical Gardens, as well as several small settlements and snow-capped peaks of the surrounding mountains. We took a photo at this place and went back to the funicular.
Before returning to the funicular, we went for a walk along the walls of the upper city, from where magical views of the lower part of Bergamo open .
See how far you can see from these fortress walls.
And you can't help but leave a life hack in your report. Directly opposite Bergamo Airport, there is a huge shopping center with two-storey parking. It is called "Oriocenter". There is a large concentration of shops, shops and cafes here. Crossing the road from the airport along the underground passage on foot, you can shop and have a tasty snack. The very convenient location of the shopping complex will brighten up your waiting at the airport during a transfer or before departure 😉
When we returned to Kiev, passing by the billboard, I saw the name of a familiar city and pleasant memories of the Upper and Lower cities flooded with a pleasant wave.
Be sure to travel!
