SOPOT
Musical capital of Poland

We will be pleased if you like this article.
It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)
If you ever find yourself in Sopot, then it is very likely that you will arrive there by train. Therefore, the largest shopping center in the city is combined with a train station, and it is called Sopot centrum.

We were lucky to be in Sopot during the Sunday fair. The many delicacies that are prepared right in front of you delight the eye and beckon the stomach. See what multi-kilogram loaves of black bread were baked for the fair to treat visitors with fine sandwiches with fish, onions and pickles. And behind them there was a real line of gluttons ;-)

On the other side of the fair is a whole stand of Spanish cuisine. We took the seafood paella. After such a tasty treat, I considered it my duty to check in at the sign "I love Sopot".

A pleasant memory of the fair in this Polish resort town for us was a mischievous smiling dog who shared his good mood with others. (if anything - the smiling dog in the photo on the left ;-)

After having a snack and smiling, we went to the beach. Sopot beach looks like a classic beach on the Baltic Sea: there is a lot of sand and no one is swimming ;-)

Swans are a wonderful decoration of the beach. This is very offensive for the seagulls, who also try to show off in front of photographers, but all the attention of visitors is directed only to the swans.

And this is true, because the sea swans of Sopot are very graceful and beautiful (seagulls - do not read ;-)

The main attraction of Sopot is a walk along the pier (Molo). When we were in Palanga we were told that the Palanga pier is the longest in Europe. In Sopot, we were told the same story about the pier of this city. Now, referring to Wikipedia, we will establish the information order !!! So, Palanga is 480 meters, and Sopot is 515.5 meters. In short, Sopot is longer ;-)

Before the trip, all sources on the Internet convinced us that the entrance to the Sopot pier is paid and takes place through turnstiles, like in the subway. But for us, the ticket offices were closed, and the turnstiles were open. Therefore, we could not explain to ourselves why we were allowed to the pier for free. Perhaps this is because of the fair, or on Sundays a "holiday of unprecedented generosity" is declared here
At the farthest point of the pier, you need to drink coffee. This is a great pleasure, confirmation of this is the face of the woman sitting behind Natasha's back. And, she has not drank coffee yet. ;-)

The walk along the pier ends with the yacht parking, where you can take pictures near them. We also managed to see there: a pirate frigate passing by and a huge jellyfish.

And now about the most important sights of Sopot. There are two of them: a song contest and a Crooked House. The Sopot song contest, judging by the list of winners, was the apotheosis of the "Soviet song". The winners from the USSR in different years were Tatyana Miansarova with the song "May there always be sunshine", Leshchenko with his "militant" "I'll get up before dawn today", Pugacheva with the song popular in the USSR "Kings Can Do Everything" and Ponarovskaya Irina with a song unknown to us "Hurry up". The winners from other countries, over the years, were also far from world-class (but probably on the moral level they corresponded to the socialist standards of the popular song). I'd like to believe that such a brand as "International Song Festival in Sopot" will gradually get rid of the image of "post-Soviet naphthalene". Hope for this is given by the victory in 2013 of the French singer Imany with the song "You Will Never Know" , which really became a world hit in popular music. Look at the Crooked House in the next photo ;-)

Having photographed beside him, we did not miss the beautiful monument to the "Fisherman Boy" in the alley opposite: A boy is walking along a cable stretched between the houses. Very beautiful.

2. Iron monument
3. Wooden monument

And here is the fountain that greets everyone returning from the pier. And a rally against abortion, which we met in the central square (after all, Poland is one of the most Catholic countries in Europe).

The main walking street of Sopot, which is called the Heroes of Monte Cassino. It is named after the Italian town of Monte Cassino (coincidence ;-), where in 1944 the Allies interrupted the Nazi defense in Italy by launching an offensive on Rome. Why the main street of Sopot was named after those Italian events, we do not know, but the beauty of this street in the rays of sunset in the evening - we know ;-)

This is how this street looks one way and the other.

As a bonus - one of the villas in Sopot, which is being sold at Sotheby's. If you want to buy - the phone in the photo. This is the second villa for sale at this auction that we advertise on our blog and the first was on Isla mujeres island in Mexico ;-)
