We will be pleased if you like this article.

It costs you nothing, but a good deed is done :-)

The pink hare you see in the first photo is famous for being located near the Vienna Opera. If you are going to visit this famous theater, be sure to take a picture near the hare ;-)

Since the opening of Visa-free for Ukrainians, the phrase about visiting the Vienna Opera is a very popular meme . Today we will show our readers that it is not difficult to hear the enchanting sounds of opera in the Austrian capital, and most importantly, it is inexpensive. Go ahead, the Vienna Opera is waiting for its fans! The option was valid for May 2019 dates when booking in March.

Starting point: Kiev

Travel days : 4 2 days in Bratislava and 2 days in Vienna

Budget : € 141.60 (excluding food and souvenirs costs)

Required Visas : A visa is not required for citizens of Ukraine with a biometric passport.

Route Kiev Bratislava Vienna

To visit Slovakia and Austria on a short vacation, you need to learn how to use the wizzair website. Their website has a convenient format for finding inexpensive tickets, which is called "Rozklad". Go to Google, type "wizzair rozklad" and enter the link, which we have marked with an orange arrow.

 Google search

The link will open a page where you will need to enter the name of the point of departure "Kiev" and the point of destination "Bratislava". And then scroll through the months and choose the cheapest flight dates. They are highlighted there in blue. Here, we see that on May 19 a flight Kiev - Bratislava costs 269 hryvnia or 8.70 euros . But let's not be cunning, such prices are possible if you have prepaid participation in the discount WIZZ discount club , the entry into which costs 30 euros. This club allows you to save at least 10 euros for each ticket for two people during a calendar year, which means that if you fly together there and back, then the savings on four tickets will be from 40 euros. This suggests that participation in the club is beneficial. Firstly, you want to become a regular traveler, which means that you will probably still fly next year to some of the wizzair destinations. Secondly, we recommend paying for the WIZZ discount club on your own behalf, since the right to a discount for two passengers will have the right to a discount for two passengers during the year exactly the one for whom it is issued, and he will be able to change his partners on flights "like gloves" ;-) Pay attention: the one for whom the club discount is issued must be among the passengers! Club members cannot buy other people at a discount if they do not fly on this flight themselves!

Then we choose a return ticket. On May 29, there is an opportunity to buy it for 299 hryvnia, but according to the scenario we only have 4 days of vacation, and therefore we choose the flight, which will be on May 22 and costs 749 hryvnia or 24.20 euros .

 Wizzair Schedule
 Wizzair flight schedule

Choosing tickets in both directions, we get an amount of 1018 hryvnia or 32.90 euros . Excellent flight fare. Even such "shabby" travelers as we, several years ago, managed to fly this route for as much as 46 euros, and here less than 33. At the same time, if you were satisfied with the date of the return flight on May 29, then the air tickets could cost you only 18.30 euros !

To settle in Bratislava, we will use the popular AirBienBi service. It allows you to book daily accommodation around the world directly from the owners. We found a separate apartment near the central squares of Bratislava for 118 euros for two nights for two travelers. It is logical that the share of the cost per person will be 59 euros for two nights in the capital of Slovakia. The costs could have been even lower if we had used a hostel or had chosen a room in an apartment instead of "Whole Housing". But we are going to listen to the Vienna Opera, so we "can afford it" ;-)

AirBnb Bratislava

Good news for those new to AirBnB ! If you book it through our link , you will receive a discount of 28 euros and your stay in Bratislava will drop in price from 118 euros to 90 euros for two travelers, which is 45 euros per one.

You have arrived in Bratislava. Be sure to go and admire the old plane that hangs from the airport ceiling on its left side. If you have any coins of 1 and 2 euros left about past travels, then feel free to go to the bus stop and buy tickets from the machine with a yellow piping (pictured below). Getting on the bus without a ticket, offering the bus driver money, waving a credit card in front of him is useless. Either show your ticket, or the bus will leave without you. If you don't have euro coins, then catch a life hack: return to the airport building, go in the direction of the old plane, and under it, at the kiosk with the inscription "Tabak, mediapress, press" (see the photo below), you will be sold bus tickets. You can pay for them with euro banknotes and credit cards. Tickets in Slovakia are valid by time and by city zones. We took 60 minutes within the 3rd zone. It cost 1.20 euros then . This ticket was enough for us to take bus 61, travel 25 stops and get off at "Hodzovo". From there, about 1 kilometer walk to the city center (reference point - go towards the Danube). And if you want to understand the route map of Bratislava in more detail, then here's a site for you .

What to see in Bratislava? The first tip is to watch our report , and the second tip is to dig around on the Tripadvisor website. We have already described how to do this in the article "Greenland Route" . Third tip: see the photos below. 1. Bratislava Castle, 2. Monument to Chumil (onlooker or plumber), 3. UFO restaurant.

After walking for a couple of days in Bratislava, it's time to get ready for Vienna. For a trip to the capital of Austria, the most convenient and inexpensive option will be the Flixbus buses. It is a European low-cost bus company that offers low-cost travel around Europe. let's take a look at their website: https://www.flixbus.ru/ . A trip to Vienna will cost you 5 euros one way. We take a ticket Bratislava - Vienna on the morning of May 21, and a return ticket Vienna - Bratislava at noon on May 22. We will spend 1.5 days in the Austrian capital and pay 10 euros for the round trip. The company's buses have an entertainment system built into the back of the front seat, but I think that you will simply admire the scenery outside the window. Drive + - 1 hour.

Flixbass round trip

We do not know what you want to see in Vienna, but as a hint, we write that the final bus stop from Bratislava will be near the Vienna Central Station. And from it to the park and the Belvedere palace about 500 meters, so we recommend starting your acquaintance with the most imperial city in the world from there.

 Belvedere, Vienna

Vienna is a "bunch" of architectural masterpieces and historical monuments, so be prepared to "stomp" at least 30 thousand steps per day, as we did ( report by link ), but do not forget that the Vienna Opera awaits you in the evening, and there on May 21 2019 there will be a production: "The Barber of Seville" .

Barber of seville

And let the whiners on social networks continue to spread the myth about the unattainability of ticket prices for the Vienna Opera, we are realists and will go to the website of this reputable institution to see what they offer. And what do we see? Tickets for the performance start from as much as 15 euros !

We buy these tickets, realizing that these are unlikely to be the first rows in the stalls ;-) but the professionalism of the vocalists and the brightness of the show - we will be able to fully experience it.

Barber of Seville, tickets

Since you are sophisticated connoisseurs of opera, it will be useless for you to plunge into the economical world of hostels after the performance. Today you can afford a four-star hotel in the center of the Austrian capital. Fortunately, it costs 86 euros for two.

Let's use the " Booking " website for this . Those who register using our link will have a 10% discount on their first booking and the hotel price will be 77.40 euros ( 38.70 euros per person).

After walking around Vienna, after 14:00 you check into the hotel.

 Booking. Hotel in Vienna

It is very important that your hotel is within walking distance of the theater. Since you will need to check in at this hotel during the day, get from the bottom of the hand luggage (40 * 30 * 20 cm), which allows you to carry a wizzair - a cocktail dress or a ceremonial costume for visiting the opera, will solemnly go dressed to the theater by 19:30, and then, at the end of the performance, walk through night Vienna back in the direction of your hotel. The Google map shows the distance less than two kilometers to the theater, which means that you can take a leisurely walk to your bed in about half an hour.

 The road from the opera

On May 22, you bought a return ticket to Flixbus at 12:30. Sleep at the hotel until 10 and check out at 10:30. The bus route will go through the city center. The distance to the station is 4 kilometers and it's really possible to walk in an hour, but you are in Vienna, so you will take pictures, look around, which means it is better to set aside a couple of hours on the way to the station.

Vienna train station

In an hour you get to Bratislava (13:30), there you take bus number 61 and in half an hour you get to the airport (14:00), and there registration for the flight starts at 14:45. Fly home at 4:45 pm.

Finishing the description of the route, let's try to calculate, and what would be the most economical option for this trip?

1. If you could buy a ticket at the lowest price (18.30 euros).

2. If you spent two nights in Bratislava in a hostel and not in an apartment (instead of 45 euros for 2 days, it will be 16).

3. And in Vienna, too, the hotel was replaced with a hostel (one night will cost not 38.70 euros, but 24).

In the meantime, there is no need to know about it. ”

Total: the cheapest trip from Ukraine to the Vienna Opera, with two days in Slovakia and two days in Austria, will cost: 18.30 (air ticket) +16 (2 days in a hostel in Bratislava) +10 (two-way bus) +15 ( opera ticket) +24 (hostel for the night in Vienna) = 83.30 euros . Be sure to travel!
