We would be pleased if you like this article.

It doesn't cost you anything, but a good deed is done :-)

We visited Klaipeda at the golden age of Ukrainian civil aviation, namely in 2018. A year before that, Ukrainians had received visa-free travel with the European Union and new air carriers entered the country at a rate of several a month. And those carriers that already worked on the market tried to surprise them with new unexpected routes. This is how the Kiev-Palanga flight appeared on the UIA flight map, thanks to which we were able to get to the north of Lithuania and get to know the Baltic coast of this country. We arrived in Klaipeda from Palanga by minibus, just for one day, and immediately found ourselves in the vicinity of the port.

Walking along the canal, we heard a warm invitation to take a ride to the island of Juodkrante. We know that adventures are bright, do not expect a second invitation from fate! (Later, this wisdom was proved by Prague ). Having paid 2 euros from the "bow", we loaded onto a small launch and set sail.

We sailed past a large "cruise ship" and were able to see in the distance the white "banks" of liquefied gas storage facilities, which Lithuania was the first to build in Europe, fighting for its energy independence.

The final station of our launch was the Dolphinarium. Let's make a reservation that we are unequivocal opponents of any dolphinariums and always look at these graceful animals only in a free environment. But you can't throw out a word from the song, we went out near the Dolphinarium and photographed it for reporting.

A normal asphalt road is laid along the coast of the island, along which not only cars drive, but also walking carts drawn by horses.

We started exploring the island from the Lithuanian Skansen. This word came to us from Stockholm , where many objects of ancient life were collected in one place, including huts, churches and outbuildings. By analogy with the skansen from Sweden, this was the name for "cultural villages" all over the world. For example, the Ukrainian "skansen" is located in Kiev and is called "Pirogovo" . In Klaipeda we walked in the Lithuanian version of such a complex.

There you can wander near the nets, which are dried on poles after the fishermen return from a sea voyage.

We examined Lithuanian houses, both outside and inside.

The old houses are covered with the same thatched roofs as the Ukrainian ones in Pirogovo .

Even Lithuanian goats are very similar to ours 😉

While sailing to the dolphinarium, we saw ships standing near the coast. It was necessary to visit them.

In addition to ships, the exhibition displays samples of depth charges that were used in local waters.

One of the ships on display has a very famous name. As the saying goes "You will be with us on Kolyma ..."

And the next photo will show what "montage" is. Wind in the face, bow of the ship and in front of the port of Klaipeda. But the attentive reader will see on the right the windshield of the car and the coast of the island.

The height of the ship on which I took the selfie was like this. And his insides were amazing.

Inside the ship, the Lithuanians recreated the "Soviet world". There are posters, a red flag, and a complete list of the Politburo. We still remember the anecdote where the sign language interpreter shows himself - a collar, tongue and hare ears, and the official text reads: "At the airport, the delegation was met by: Vorotnikov, Slyunkov, Zaikov." We will not go deep into the debate why it was so important for Soviet TV viewers to find out who exactly met at the airport, some Mengistu Haile Miriam , but the visit to the "Soviet committee" aroused some sympathy in us. People who could organize their businesses, earn good money selling their catch, had to learn the names of the "Kremlin old men" and receive for their efforts a piece of kumach with a portrait of a person who died many years ago.

Gradually we made it to the ferry crossing, which should take us back to the mainland. On the left, a kiosk was installed where tickets were sold. There were 2 or 3 buyers besides us, and the rest just got on the ferry. We do not believe that so many people from law-abiding Lithuania did not pay the fare. It is likely that visitors to the island of Juodkrante immediately bought a round-trip ticket. We met this option when we sailed to Isla Mujeres from Cancun .

The views we saw from the ferry were very scenic.

Returning from the island, we went to explore the streets of Klaipeda. Look how clean, cute and cozy they are.

What was impossible to get around was the frigate Meridianas, which spread its sails in the center of the city. We took a selfie in front of it and wanted to take a closer look at the ship.

But, to our regret, the sailboat was booked for the whole day by a young couple who united their hearts on this day. We wished the "young" happiness and went to explore Klaipeda further.

And the first object to be remembered was the signor sitting on the roof of the Portobello complex.

After that there was a statue carrying sailboats on its shoulders, as well as the Satyr, who bashfully turned away to the wall.

You can end your day in Klaipeda with shopping. We give a tip: the largest shopping center is called "AKROPOLIS". In it you can both skimp and have a snack. 😉
